Efficacy and safety of combination of tadalafil and aspirin versus tadalafil or aspirin alone in patients with vascular erectile dysfunction

This study aimed to investigate tadalafil (Cialis) and aspirin in the treatment of vascular erectile dysfunction (ED). This study found that aspirin can be used alone in the treatment of patients with vascular ED, or combined with tadalafil.

Many men experience erectile dysfunction (ED). This is the inability to get or keep an erection firm enough to have sexual intercourse. Certain medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions can lead to damage to blood vessels. This can also lead to ED. ED caused by damage to the blood vessels in the penis is called vascular ED. Treatment options include ED drugs such as tadalafil (Cialis).

Aspirin is a drug used in many blood vessel diseases. It prevents platelets (blood cells involved in clotting) from sticking together. It is unknown if aspirin taken alone or in combination with tadalafil is effective in treating vascular ED. 

This study included 336 patients with vascular ED. They were split into 4 groups. Group 1 had aspirin 100 mg daily. Group 2 had tadalafil 5 mg daily. Group 3 had aspirin and tadalafil. Group 4 had a placebo. All groups filled out questionnaires about their sexual function. 

Groups 1,2 and 3 reported improvements in their sexual function. They experienced fewer symptoms of ED. Group 2 had higher amounts of side-effects than others. 

This study found that aspirin can be used alone in the treatment of patients with vascular ED, or combined with tadalafil.
