Prediabetes is a condition that can lead to the development of Type 2 diabetes according to the CDC. You have prediabetes if your blood glucose is higher than normal (though not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes).
Other risk factors include
- Your age: you are “45 years of age or older”
- Your weight: you “are overweight”
- Your family history: you “have a family history of type 2 diabetes”
- Your blood pressure: you “have high blood pressure”
- Your activity level: you “are physically active fewer than three times per week”
- For women who have been pregnant: You “have ever had diabetes while pregnant (gestational diabetes) or gave birth to a baby that weighed more than 9 pounds”*
