This study examined bone density, structure and fractures in patients with diabetes.  The study concluded that type 1 diabetes patients had a lower bone mineral density (BMD, the amount of calcium in your bones) at the hipbone and lower bone stiffness at the shinbone than type 2 diabetes patients. Sclerostin, a protein, was associated with the risk of fracture.
