Evaluating the effectiveness and safety of a shorter dual antiplatelet therapy duration after coronary stenting in patients with acute or recent heart attack at high bleeding risk.

This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of a shorter dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) duration after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using drug-eluting stents (DES) in patients with acute or recent myocardial infarction (MI; heart attack) at high bleeding risk. The data showed that a shorter DAPT duration (1 month) significantly reduced the risk of bleeding compared with a long DAPT duration (minimum of 3 months) with similar risks of death or heart attacks in these patients.

How does physical activity affect the occurrence of major diabetes-related complications?

This study evaluated evidence on the association between physical activity and major diabetes-related complications in patients with diabetes. The authors concluded that physical activity was associated with a reduction in the occurrence of major diabetes-related complications, even if performed at levels lower than recommended.

Evaluating the long-term outcomes of catheter-based renal artery denervation in patients with uncontrolled hypertension.

This study reported the long-term outcomes of catheter-based renal artery denervation (CB-RD) in patients with resistant or uncontrolled hypertension [high blood pressure (BP)]. The data showed that over the long-term CB-RD was safe and had significantly greater reductions in BP and better BP control compared with a sham control in these patients.

Combining a “herbal” and conventional disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug for treating rheumatoid arthritis.

This study explored the effectiveness and safety of tripterygium glycosides (TG) as a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) when combined with conventional DMARDs for treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The authors concluded that good safety and better improvements in RA symptoms were observed when TG was combined with a conventional DMARD compared to conventional treatment alone.

Comparing the effects of a Mediterranean versus a low-fat diet in the secondary prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease.

This study compared the effects of a Mediterranean versus a low-fat diet in the secondary prevention of major cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with established coronary artery disease (CAD). The data showed that in secondary prevention, the Mediterranean diet was more effective in preventing MACEs compared to a low-fat diet in these patients.

Is real time glucose monitoring better than intermittent scanning for patients with type 1 diabetes?

This study compared intermittent scanning continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM) with real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rtCGM) for the treatment of type 1 diabetes (T1D). It found that compared to isCGM, rt CGM resulted in increased time spent in range and improved blood glucose control in these patients.

Is osteoporosis more likely to occur in patients with rheumatoid arthritis?

This study investigated the occurrence of osteoporosis (OP) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The authors concluded that although significant advancements were made in OP prevention, treatment and diagnosis, a high occurrence was still observed in patients with RA.

Comparing the effectiveness and safety of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors versus chemotherapy for the treatment of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer.

This study compared the effectiveness and safety outcomes of different programmed death-1 (PD-1)/PD ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors versus chemotherapy for the treatment of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The data showed that PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors were safer and more effective than chemotherapy with cemiplimab (Libtayo) being the most effective in improving the overall survival of these patients.

Evaluating the risk factors for ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke recurrence

This study investigated the risk factors for ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke recurrence and the impact of antiplatelet therapy in patients with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH; brain bleed). The data showed that the risk of stroke recurrence is high in these patients. Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a risk factor for ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke recurrence. Antiplatelet therapy does not decrease the risk of ischemic stroke recurrence but may decrease the risk of hemorrhagic stroke recurrence.

Can autologous cell therapy improve severe diabetic foot disease?

This study looked at the use of autologous cell therapy (ACT) to treat no-option chronic limb-threatening ischemia (NO-CLTI) in patients with diabetic patients. The study showed that compared to standard treatment, ACT resulted in a significant improvement in ischemia and food healing in these patients.
