This trial is examining the effectiveness of nature sounds to reduce pain and anxiety in patients undergoing breast core biopsy. The main outcome to be measured will be anxiety and pain scores. The study is being conducted in Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. 

The details

A biopsy can be a stressful test for patients to undergo. Methods of reducing stress and anxiety during this test are needed. 

This study is evaluating the effect of nature sounds on stress levels of patients undergoing biopsy of the breast. The main outcome will be measured in pain and anxiety scores following the biopsy. 

 

Who are they looking for?

This study is recruiting 200 participants undergoing breast core biopsy. Patients must be able to speak and read English.

How will it work

Patients will be randomly assigned to two groups. One group will hear nature sounds during the biopsy and the other will not. All other steps of the biopsy will be carried out as normal. Patients and staff will complete a questionnaire at the time of the biopsy and will be followed until 2020. Heart rate will be monitored throughout the biopsy.
